Contract translations and notary appointments

Whether you are buying a house, registering a company or wanting to enter into a nuptial agreement, the execution of the contract will be in the presence of a notary.

If a notary is concerned that one party does not fully understand German, they will ask for support from a sworn translator or interpreter at the relevant appointment. The document to be executed should be translated and provided to the non-German-speaking party and an interpreter should be present to help with any questions. Similarly, if a registrar is unsure whether both parties to a marriage ceremony understand German fully, they will ask for an interpreter to support the ceremony.

I have accompanied clients at marriage ceremonies and notarisation appointments in Saarlouis, Dillingen, Völklingen and Merzig. That way all parties fully understood the legal contract they were entering into.

Translation and appointment experience

Contracts

  • Property purchase agreements
  • Nuptial agreements (in Germany they do not need to be pre-nuptial!)

Finding English language support at notarisation meetings is not as easy as finding other language services because you will require a combination of translating (writing) and interpreting (speaking). Many translators are uncomfortable with interpreting at an appointment and many interpreters prefer not to translate the document.

I speak and write both languages daily and am therefore comfortable with both translating the document in advance and then meeting you at the notary’s office in Saarlouis or Merzig for the appointment.
